The activity starts early morning with a briefing at the meeting center about the rules and regulations concerning trekking. After the briefing, trekking will take its course in about 2 to 4 hours sessions depending on the location of the chimpanzees as they locomote for food. Birding in Murchison Falls is possible all year round, but is best during the less rainy season for tourists from January to March when birds are more active, particularly migratory birds present from November to April. Rainfall is always low from December to February and abundant from April to May and September to November. During heavy rains, roads are still impassable and slippery as most breeding grounds are in remote areas, making bird watching difficult. However, the Park relatively has a high proportion of over 450 bird species including savannah birds, migratory birds, water birds, and passerines such as Robin-chats, Ravens, Sparrows, Weavers, Queleas and others like the globally threatened Shoebill Stork, Senegal and Spotted Thick-knee, African Fish Eagle, White-crested Turaco, Black-billed barbet, Abyssinian Ground Hornbill, the forested southern sections offers great views of the Blue-throated Roller, Nahan’s Partridge, Yellow-browed Camaroptera, the too-noisy White-thighed Hornbill, Forest Robin, graceful Cassin’s and Sabine’s Spinetail, Forest Flycatcher, Chestnut-capped Flycatcher, Ituri Batis, Lemon Bellied Crombec, Tit Hylia, Uganda Woodland Warbler, Yellow Billed, Grey Throated, Hairy Breasted and Yellow Spotted Barbet, Black-billed nd Great Blue Turaco, Dusky Long-tailed Cuckoo, Spotted, Plain, Slender Billed, Honey-guide, White Throated, Little Grey and Little Greenbul, the locally common but shy Red Tailed Bristlebill, Green Twinspot, pairs of Red-headed Bluebill can be sighted and Black-capped Apalis among others.
