2 Days Bird Watching Trip in Mabamba: This two-day excursion takes you birdwatching in Uganda’s Mabamba Wetland and Entebbe. In addition to being home to the endangered Shoebill Stork, the wetland is well-known for having a wide range of bird species. Mabamba Island has developed into one of the most captivating and amazing bird-watching destinations in the world.
Mabamba is the only location in Africa, or perhaps the entire globe, that is considered the greatest for seeing the elusive Shoebill at any time of day and year, with the exception of Murchison Falls National Park. On this adventure, you will encounter a variety of bird species, in addition to the endangered Shoebill!
Day 1: Bird watching in Entebbe Botanical Gardens & UWEC
Our birding guide will meet and greet you and take you to your designated Entebbe lodging after a thorough inspection. Depending on when you arrive, you could spend the afternoon at UWEC, which is home to more than 170 different species of birds and other animals. These comprise seven different species of weavers, including the uncommon Northern Masked Weaver and Orange Weaver, as well as Sunbirds, Kingfishers, Cuckoos, Doves and others.
Proceed to Entebbe Botanical Gardens after savouring a wonderful breakfast. There are more than 150 different types of birds to see while birdwatching on these top trails in Entebbe. Day 2: Mabamba wetland & Search for Shoebills
Travel to Mabamba Swamp, 50 kilometres west of Kampala early in the morning. A variety of birds, including the Papyrus Gonolek, White-winged Black Tit, the visiting Red Cap, Western-banded Snake Eagle, White-winged Warbler, white-spotted flufftail, and Weyns’s Weaver, Red-headed Lovebird, Double-toothed Barbet, Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird, the common and wide spread always loud Brown-throated Wattle -eye, Splendid Starling, Broad-billed Roller, Northern-black Flycatcher, Sooty Chat, Lizard Buzzard, Wahlberg’s Eagle, Woodland and Striped Kingfisher can be seen en-route to the marsh. One of the greatest locations to see the amazing Shoebill Stork is this swamp. However, a wide range of other species can also be found here, including the globally threatened and visiting Pallid Harrier, the migratory Blue Swallow, several Egret species, ducks, Allen’s and Purple Gallinule, Grey Herons, Lesser and African Jacana, Rufous-bellied Heron, Squaco, Purple, and Goliath Heron, Long-toed Lapwing, Blue-breasted Bee-eater, Cape Wagtail, African Marsh Harrier, Saddle-billed Stork among others.
Canoeing is the best way to take in the abundant bird life, and you may even be lucky enough to spot the elusive Sitatunga Antelope, which is adapted to living in swampy areas. Drive back to the hotel later in the afternoon to conclude your 2 Days bird watching trip in Mabamba.
