3-days Lake Mburo Birding Safari: This is one of Uganda’s ideal places for a birding safari that includes wildlife and several bird species on your three-day, two-night bird-viewing excursion to Lake Mburo National Park. For birdwatchers, this park—which is the closest to Kampala—is a true gem! The scenery is amazing for observing birds. Explore marshes, lakes, savannahs, undulating hills, and acacia trees—all of which offer the ideal habitat for a wide range of bird species. Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Lake Mburo National Park for 3-days Lake Mburo Birding Safari
Today, we depart early from each of your accommodations to begin our safari/birdwatching adventure. There will be multiple stops along the way to search for certain bird species in their rarely visited areas. Among the birds of importance on this transfer are the Rufous-bellied Heron, Lilac-breasted Roller, White-winged Black-Tit, African Water Rail, Golden-backed Weaver, Wooly-necked Stork, Broad-billed Roller, Splendid Glossy Starling, Papyrus Gonolek, Greater Swamp Warbler, White-winged Swamp Warbler, Long-crested Eagle, Western Banded Snake-Eagle, Great Blue and Ross’s Turaco, Yellow Fronted and Brimstone Canary, Red-chested, Diederik and Klaas’s Cuckoo, Red-headed Lovebird, Grey and Lesser Kestrel among others. While travelling across Uganda for birdwatching, it will be worthwhile to stop around the equator to take pictures and stretch your legs.

Day 2: Birding Lake Mburo National Park
After breakfast at our lodge, we go on a game and birding drive with an armed ranger, increasing our chances of seeing mammals like Buffaloes, Zebras, Impalas, Elands, Cape Buffalo, Topi, Giraffe among the big herbivores and carnivores like the Hyeana, Leopard, Jackal among others. During our birding, we concentrate on looking for Red-faced Barbets, Coqui Francolins, Brown Chested Plovers, Tabora Cisticola among the rarities of Lake Mburo National Park and then Lesser and Greater-blue Eared Starlings, Buff-bellied Warbler, African Penduline Tit, Sooty Boubou, Black-headed Gonolek, with the Papyrus Gonolek which is a spectacular papyrus specialist, Red-headed, Golden-backed, Lesser-masked and Village Weaver, Black Shouldered Cuckoo-shrike Orange (Sulphur) -breasted Bushshrike, Green-capped Eremomela, Barefaced-Go-away-Bird, Thick-billed Cuckoo, Green-wood Hoopoe, Black-headed Batis, Green-headed, Purple Banded, Marico, Scarlet Chested, Copper and Olive Sunbird, Crowned and Senegal Lapwing, Yellew-breasted Apalis, Grey-backed Shrike, Cardinal, Nubian, Golden-tailed and Bearded Woodpecker, Pearl-spotted Owlet and other birds connected to acacias, We take a boat journey in the afternoon to look for African Finfoot, White-Backed and Black-Crowned Night Herons, Rufous-bellied Heron, Dwarf Bittern, Malachite Kingfisher and Giant Kingfishers.

Depending on the flight duration or where we spend the night, our birding for today will vary. There are good locations, and we mostly search for species that we may have overlooked and where Papyrus Gonolek may be found. Our short Ugandan birding safari has come to an end.
