4 Days Nyungwe Chimpanzee and Cultural Tour: Taken deep into Rwanda’s Nyungwe Forest National Park and its cultural experiences, the 4-day Nyungwe Chimpanzee Tour is an incredible trip. With 13 different kinds of primates, including the Rwenzori colobus, this highland forest is home to the largest numbers of chimpanzees. Tracking and observing these beautiful and intelligent animals in their native environment is made possible by this exceptional experience. The tracking experience in Nyungwe Forest National Park involves navigating steep, slick hillsides with uncertain views. Other attractions include over 300 species of birds, orchids, and butterflies. Nyungwe is home to one of the highest concentrations of endemic species in all of Africa, and its biodiversity is astounding by African standards.

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to start Nyungwe Forest adventure

Upon reaching Rwanda’s capital, Kigali, you will travel for 5 to 6 hours to the Nyungwe Forest National Park, home to chimpanzees, in preparation for your chimpanzee trekking tour the following day. Visit the former King’s Palace in Nyanza when travelling. Once you have finished your lunch, continue on to the park. Spend the night at Gisakura Guest House/Nyungwe Forest Lodge after dinner, getting ready for the chimpanzee tracking the following day.

Day 2:  Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park for Chimpanzee Tracking

After breakfast, which will be provided early in the morning, you will head to the park headquarters for a briefing that starts at 6:00 am. Here at Nyungwe Forest National Park, chimpanzee tracking activities begin at 6:00 am, in contrast to other countries like as Uganda, where the activity commences at 8:00 am. You will enter the forest in the dead of night, but before long, during the early hours of the day, you will be able to witness chimpanzees and other primates, including Colobus monkeys and forest birds. After tracking, head back to your lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you will embark on a guided woodland walk in the forest, where you may go birdwatching and witness a variety of bird species. Head back for dinner and an overnight stay

Day 3:  Nyungwe Forest and community cultural encounter

Explore Nyungwe Forest’s varied flora and fauna during the morning. For stunning views, head to the canopy walkway. Following your transfer to the long-established Bwindi and Ngezi communities, you may learn about their history, way of life, and traditional hunting methods by joining them on a guided community nature walk. Discover the traditions and habits of the Batwa people, the original residents of the forest, by paying a visit to the Uwinka Cultural Centre later on. As a means of getting to know the locals, you will also take part in events like singing and dancing, as well as crafts like basketry. By supporting community development initiatives and fostering connections with the local population, this provides an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of sustainable development and conservation strategies.

Day 4: Transfer back to Kigali and departure

After your morning breakfast, return to Kigali, where you will visit the Rwanda National Museum in Butare town and eat lunch on the way to the city. Travel to Kigali and be dropped off at the airport to catch your return flight.
