This 5-Day Mountain Elgon Climbing Adventure is an exhilarating and thrilling hike that takes you to one of the oldest volcanic mountains in the world, formed some 24 million years ago, by taking the Mount Elgon hiking safari in eastern Uganda. Mount Elgon was once higher than Kilimanjaro, but erosion caused it to drop to 4,321 feet at Wagagai Peak. You will discover the stunning heath, bamboo, moorland, and hot springs in addition to passing through one of the largest calderas on Earth.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pickup and Transfer to Mount Elgon National Park.
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport or from your hotel in Entebbe or Kampala, meet and greet our company representative or your driver guide for a briefing before beginning your journey to Eastern Uganda. This tour will take you via Jinja, including a visit to the source of the Nile, and Mbale city, which is located at the foothills of Mount Elgon, arriving in the late afternoon. Once you have checked into your accommodation, take a nature walk to discover the Sipi Falls. Sipi River Lodge for the night.
Day 2: Hike from Kapkwata to Piswa Camp, 2,850 metres
After breakfast, proceed to the starting location at Kapwata, which is 2,190 metres above sea level. Climbers can enjoy breathtaking views as they traverse heath, bamboo, and moorland on the Kapkwata trail. In the afternoon, you will arrive to Piswa Camp for relaxation. Camping at Piswa Hut Campsite and dinner.
Day 3: Hike to Hunters Cave Camp
On your hike today, you will pass through stunning columns of endangered plant species like giant lobelia and other wild everlasting flowers on your way to the hunters’ cave camp. Before returning to the hunter’s cave, which is 3,850 metres above the Caldera’s rim, you will also explore Saum George and the hot springs. At Hunters Cave Camp, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Wagagai Peak-Mude Cave Camp
After breakfast, hike to the Wagagai peak, which is 4,321 metres high, at the top of the caldera. After reaching the summit, make sure to grab as many pictures as you can before descending down the Jackson summit (4200 metres) to Mude Cave. Head to Mude Cave Camp for dinner and camping.
Day 5: Mude Cave, Budadiri, Kampala
Have breakfast and descend to Budadiri through the sasa trail before driving to Mbale for hot Lunch. After your meal, start your journey back to either Kampala or Entebbe international airport to end your 5-day Mount Elgon climbing adventure.
