6 Days Mount Elgon Hiking Safari: It takes you to the eastern region of Uganda, where you may embark on an exhilarating and daring trek atop one of the oldest volcanic mountains, which was formed approximately 24 million years ago. Mount Elgon was once higher than Kilimanjaro, but erosion caused it to drop to 4,321 feet at Wagagai Peak. You will discover the stunning heath, bamboo, moorland, and hot springs in addition to passing through one of the largest calderas on Earth.

  • Day 1: Pick up from Entebbe Airport—Transfer to Mount Elgon National Park.
  • Day 2: Hike from Kapkwata to Piswa Camp, 2,850 metres

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pickup and Transfer to Mount Elgon National Park.

Upon arrival, meet and greet our company representative/your driver guide at Entebbe International Airport or from your hotel in Entebbe or Kampala for a briefing. Then, depart for Eastern Uganda, travelling via Jinja via the Nile bridge to Mbale City, which is located at the foothills of Mount Elgon, arriving in the late afternoon. Once you have checked into your accommodation, take a nature walk to discover the Sipi Falls. Sipi River Lodge for the night.

Day 2: Hike from Kapkwata – Piswa Camp – 2,850metres

After breakfast, proceed to the starting location at 2,190 metres above sea level, Kapkwata. Climbers can enjoy breathtaking views as they traverse heath, bamboo, and moorland on the Kapkwata trail. In the afternoon, you will arrive to Piswa Camp.  Camping at Piswa Hut Campsite and dinner.

Day 3: Hike to Hunters Cave Camp

The trail leading to the hunters cave camp, where you will camp today, winds through stunning columns of endangered plant species like giant lobelia and other wild everlasting flowers. In addition, you will tour Saum George and the hot springs before making your way back to the 3,850-meter-high Hunter’s Cave on the Caldera rim. Dinner at Hunters Cave Camp and overnight stay.

Day 4: Wagagai Peak-Mude Cave Camp

After breakfast, climb to the 4,321-meter-high Wagagai mountain at the top of the caldera. After taking as many pictures as you can at the summit, descend down the Jackson summit (4200 metres) to Mude Cave.   Camping and dinner in Mude Cave Camp.

Day 5: Mude Cave, Budadiri, Kampala

After eating breakfast, drive to Mbale for a nice lunch and then descend to Budadiri along the Sasa Trail. After your meal, return the distance and visit the source of the Nile, a restful haven under the African sun with unmatched natural splendour. Spend the evening and the next day in Jinja.

Day 6: Return to Kampala / Entebbe Airport

After enjoying a delicious breakfast, leave for Entebbe Airport or Kampala to conclude your 6-day Mount Elgon hiking safari.

Have your mong breakfast and embark on returning back to Kampala or Entebbe Airport to end your 6
