Detailed Itinerary of the 7-day Primate Safari in Uganda
Day 1: Arrival for the 7-day Primate Safari in Uganda
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be welcomed by a Journeys Uganda representative who will transfer you to your hotel. Dinner and overnight at Papyrus Guesthouse
Day 2: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park
We leave Kampala bright and early and head west through the stunning countryside of Uganda to begin our journey. Half the fun is in the beautiful drive to Kibale Forest National Park! Along the route, we’ll pause to stretch our legs, take pictures of the nearby villages, and eat a delicious lunch. Dinner and overnight at Chimpanzee Forest Lodge
Day 3: Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest
On this day of the 7-day Primate Safari in Uganda, at Kibale Forest National Park in western Uganda, our safari unfolds. Kibale offers some of the best chimpanzee tracking possibilities on the continent and is home to the highest concentration of primates in Africa, including over 700 endangered chimpanzees. Finding these human cousins soaring among the treetops requires an early start. The thrill of discovering a troop will make the difficult journey through the dense bush worthwhile!
As we make our way through dense forest and muddy trails, stay close to your guide and keep an ear out for any rustling or rumblings that might indicate the chimpanzees are approaching. The moment we finally notice them, the thrill grows! After that, you’ll get to spend an amazing hour silently observing the gorilla family group up close. Observing their human-like actions and relationships is an opportunity that comes only once in a lifetime. Remember to bring your camera; as long as you keep your distance, you can take pictures.
We’ll walk out of the jungle after spending enchanted time with the gorillas, feeling both fulfilled and fatigued. It’s time to return to the lodge for a satisfying meal, a siesta, or a leisurely afternoon spent on the veranda. We’ll celebrate our amazing journey over dinner tonight after a successful day of the 7-day Primate Safari in Uganda.
Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park
We’ll take a picturesque road trip to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park after breakfast. Admire the typical African landscapes of rural settlements, local farmers tending to their crops, and waving children as we pass along the route. Make your way to your charming safari lodge close to the outskirts of Bwindi and stop for a picnic lunch outside. Enjoy panoramic views from your private balcony as you unwind. Get ready for an update regarding tomorrow’s tracking of mountain gorillas. Dinner and overnight at Buhoma Haven Lodge
Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Buhoma
Today is the big day: the gorilla trekking excursion on the 7-day Primate Safari in Uganda. To refuel, have an early breakfast before meeting our guide and porters. It takes endurance to track a gorilla family, since you must walk through Bwindi’s deep jungle for two to six hours. As we arrive at them at last, the thrill increases! For an amazing hour, you will be able to see their behaviours up close and in silence. There are only about 1,000 mountain gorillas left in the world, so seeing one is an event of a lifetime. Celebrate successes over dinner at the resort afterwards.
Day 6: Golden Monkey Tracking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Awaken, rested, and ready for a more leisurely day of hiking in the nearby Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, where you may see amusing and rare golden monkeys swinging through the towering Virunga volcanoes on this day of the 7-day Primate Safari in Uganda. It’s so much fun to watch their antics and see their sparkling fur. Later, take a guided tour to Garama Cave, which was created by volcanic explosions more than 3,000 years ago, to stretch your legs. These caverns were originally home to the Batwa people until their 1992 relocation. Dinner and overnight at Kisoro Traveller’s Rest Hotel
Day 7: Transfer back to Entebbe and departure
Enjoy a final delicious Ugandan breakfast before heading back home this morning. Until next time, amigos! I hope you enjoyed this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get up close and personal with Uganda’s amazing primates. Hence the end of the 7-day Primate Safari in Uganda
