6-day Rwanda Primates Safari
6-day Rwanda Primates Safari: You will have the opportunity to engage in two of Rwanda’s most popular wildlife activities during this 6-day Primates Safari: gorilla and chimpanzee trekking. Depending on where the gorillas or chimpanzees nest the night before, any walk may be difficult. In contrast to gorilla trekking, chimp trekking involves more hurried and irregular observations. The golden and colobus monkey treks will also be enjoyable for you.
Detailed Itinerary of the 6-day Rwanda Primates Safari
Day 1: Arrival for the 6-day Rwanda Primates Safari
Your six-day Rwanda primates safari begins today. You will be picked up and taken to your hotel by a Journeys Uganda driver guide, who will be at the airport. Depending on when you arrive, proceed on a city tour of Kigali. The Kigali Genocide Memorial and the craft market are some of the places to explore.
Accommodation: Four Points by Sheraton
Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After an early breakfast, continue your safari of Rwandan primates to Nyungwe Forest. Before continuing to Huye to explore the ethnographic museum, enjoy a brief stay in Nyanza. As an alternative to the ethnographic museum, visitors can visit the Kings Palace Museum in the Nyanza neighbourhood.
Depending on your preferences, you and your driver guide can decide which museum to visit. Rwanda’s cultural past is shared by both; however, the ethnographic museum has a larger collection and more extensive coverage. Later that evening, arrive in Nyungwe Forest and proceed to our lodge to spend the night.
Accommodation: Nyungwe Forest Lodge
Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk
Chimpanzee trekking allows you to get up close and personal with the forest and its inhabitants. As early as five in the morning, your driver guide will take you from your lodging to the forest briefing area, where you are expected. Chimpanzee trekking advice will be given to you by the ranger guide.
Along with 13 different kinds of primates, including Rwenzori colobus, L’Hoest’s monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, silver monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, and others, the forest is home to over 300 bird species, including numerous endemics of the Albertine Rift, and several butterfly species. Follow the canopy walk trail from the Uwinka trailhead in the afternoon. Take in the forest views while strolling around it.
Day 4: Tracking Colobus Monkeys and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast on this day of the 6-day Rwanda Primates Safari, head back to Nyungwe Forest to track Colobus monkeys. The local guide will give you a briefing before you visit the forest, much like when you go chimpanzee trekking. One hour is allotted for you to observe the Colobus monkeys as they groom, play, and eat.
After here, head to the Virunga region’s Volcanoes National Park. Savour the scenic views and winding roads of Lake Kivu’s “a thousand hills.” Later that night, get to your hotel.
Accommodation: Virunga Lodge
Day 5: Gorilla Trekking Experience in Volcanoes National Park
The highlight of this 6-day Rwanda primates safari will be gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. You will never forget the thrill of seeing the gentle giants in their natural environment. Following an early breakfast, the driver guide will take you to the briefing location while you carry your daypack.
Your ranger guide will direct you to the gorillas’ location by communicating with previous trackers. Depending on where the gorillas nest the night before, the hike may take an hour or many hours. To fully enjoy this experience, you must be physically fit.
Visit the Gorilla Guardians community (Ibyi’wacu community) following your gorilla tracking adventure in Rwanda. Discover more about Rwandan culture and engage in some cultural activities
Accommodation: Virunga Lodge
Day 6: Golden Monkey Trekking Experience and Departure
You’ll have to return to the park today in search of the golden monkeys. Drive to the trek’s beginning location following the ranger guides’ briefing.
You are permitted to spend an hour with the golden monkeys, just like you are with mountain gorillas. They will provide you with a rewarding experience, although they are more active than gorillas. Drive back to the lodge before departing for Kigali. We hope your experience on this 6-day Rwanda Primates Safari was amazing.
