3-Day Lake Mburo Birdwatching Tour takes you to one of Uganda’s protected areas that offers unique wildlife, including unique birding safaris with several bird species. This destination is the only destination that is closer to the capital Kampala, making it easier for visitors, especially those who prefer travelling shorter distances. The park has a unique and fabulous biodiversity that is conducive to birdlife, including lakes, savannah grassland, undulating hills, and several acacia trees. All these support a haven for several birds, such as water, forest, savannah, and migratory bird species. The park is home to over 313 bird species, including the highly threatened Shoebill Stork, Crested Francolin, Black-headed Barbet, Coqui Francolin, among others.

Following your 3-day Lake Mburo birdwatching tour, some of the birding spots in the park include the marshy areas of Miriti and Warukiri swamps, and even along the salt lick and the outskirts. Other unique birding areas in Lake Mburo National Park include the Rubanga Forest, among others. Some of the bird species to see in these birding spots include the Common Scimitarbill, Red-shouldered Cuckoo, Brown-chested Lapwing, Grey Crowned Crane, Black-bellied Bustard, Red-faced Barbet, Yellow-breasted Apalis, White-headed Barbet, Long-tailed Cisticola, Ross’s Turaco, Bare-faced Go-away-bird, Rufous-bellied Heron, Bateleur, Coqui Francolin, Brown-chested Lapwing, Emerald-spotted Wood-Dove, African Finfoot,  Brown Parrot, White-winged Tit, Red-headed Lovebird, Green Wood-hoopoe, Common Scimitarbill, Nubian Woodpecker, Red-shouldered Cuckoo-shrike, among others. Rubanga Forest is home to the rare Red-faced Barbet, and is mainly keen birders who help you search for this rare species within the park.

DAY 1:  Drive to Lake Mburo National Park-3-Day Lake Mburo Birdwatching Tour

Upon arrival at the airport or expect a pick up from your hotel in either Entebbe or Kampala by our company representative, and after drive to Lake Mburo National Park. On your way to the park, expect to have several stops searching for some bird species such as the Great Blue Turaco, Lilac-breasted Roller, Wolly-necked Stork, Hornbills, among others. You will have a stopover at the Equator landmark, which splits the earth into two hemispheres with a water experiment to prove its validity. After proceeding with your journey to find some evening species in the park.

DAY 2: Full Day birding in Lake Mburo National Park

Following your 3-day Lake Mburo birdwatching tour, after your breakfast, embark on your early morning birding experience on foot along the park trails in the company of the ranger guides, who will guide you about the park’s rules and regulations. This will offer you a chance to conduct both birding and game drive experiences, which will introduce you to several wildlife species such as zebras, topis, impalas, Elands, Topis, hyenas, buffaloes, warthogs, among others. Continue as you put much emphasis on several bird species such as the Bare-faced Go Away Bird, Red-faced Barbet, Lesser Blue Eared Starling, Brown-chested Plover, Sulpher-breasted Bush-shrike, Coqui Francolin, Tabora Cisticola, Black Shouldered Cuckoo Shrike, Buff Bellied Warbler, Red Headed Weaver, Green Capped Eremomela, Red Billed Wood Hope and several acacia tree associated birds, in the afternoon, you will have a boat launch as you look out for the Black Crowned Night Herons, Yellow-billed Stork,  African Finfoot, White Backed and, Giant Kingfisher, among others, etc. return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Birding back to Entebbe

Following your 3-day Lake Mburo birdwatching tour, today’s birding will be based on your return flight time and overnight stay. We will look for good spots, mainly focusing on species we might have missed, including the Papyrus gonolek, Coqui Francolin, Rollers, and Barbets.
