The hikers have the opportunity to encounter various park creatures, monkeys, and birds while conducting the quest. The trekkers are granted four hours to spend time with the semi-habituated gorilla family they have been searching for. In the allotted time, the trekkers can walk anywhere with the gorillas, take pictures, learn about their behaviours, and do anything they can to gain their trust.

Gorilla habituation permits for Bwindi impenetrable forest national park

Habituation permits for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park cost Shs750,000 for East African citizens and $1500 for foreign non-residents and foreign residents, respectively, from the Uganda Wildlife Authority. The Uganda Wildlife Authority offices or a reputable local tour operator can provide the habituation permits directly for the same price. In Uganda, there are only eight gorilla habituation permits, and only four individuals are permitted to walk with a single semi-habituated gorilla troop.

Accessing Bwindi for gorilla habituation can be done using various transportation means, such as by road driving from Entebbe or Kampala to Masaka to Mbarara to Kisoro or Kabale, taking 9 to 10 hours. Alternatively, when accessing Bwindi for gorilla habituation, one can fly from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airstrip to Kihihi Airstrip or Kisoro Airstrip, where they will drive a short distance to the park. The last option is to drive from Kigali through the Cyanika or Katuna borders, which takes 4-5 hours.
