The trip starts and ends in the city of a thousand hills – Kigali, however, given our experience and time spent doing these safaris we advise that out of the little time you have spare a night to stay around Musanze prior to this day if you have challenges with morning wake ups and drives.
If the drive starts in Kigali, you will need approximately 3 hours to the briefing point at Volcanoes National Park – where Dian Fossey spent most of her productive age in life getting gorillas used to humans, briefing at the park by your gorilla ranger guide of the day always starts at 8:00am after a cap of coffee or tea. Your driver guide will help identify an appropriate gorilla group that you will track this day, in Rwanda we have groups which are closer, medium and hard groups, however we do not guarantee that groups will be close as these are wild animals and know prior appointment is made with them, they might move and the tracking takes longer than expected, we always have walks from 2 to 8 hours. After the briefing, you will get back into your car and drive to the point where gorilla tracking starts, some points are really rough as you head off, views of farmlands of the park neighbors and different farming methods and crops compared to other parts of the world is amazing, as you track, let the focus not only be gorillas, nature is just so incredible out there as you eagerly await and look out for the gorillas in the Virunga jungles, after a full one hour out in a real dream life you head back to the starting point and eventually to where you will have started and that marks the end of our one day gorilla safari in Rwanda.
