Day 3: Mgahinga gorilla National Park-Batwa Cultural Trail Experience
On your 4 Days Uganda Golden Monkey and Batwa Culture Experience, after breakfast in the morning, check out of your lodge and head to the park to start the Batwa culture path tour. The Batwa Trail Experience will take you to see the Batwa Pygmies, who are referred to with pride as “the forest keepers” and who were once inhabitants of Mgahinga and Bwindi Forest. However, when these forests were designated as national parks, they were forced to leave the forests and were given land outside of them so as not to interfere with the conservation of wildlife, primarily mountain gorillas.
Despite being forced out of the forest reserves, they created a trail to demonstrate their way of life as Bushmen. As a result, you will experience a variety of characteristics of the Batwa pygmy people along this walk, including how they manufacture fire locally, construct their shelters using natural materials, heal themselves with herbal remedies, and demonstrate their hunting techniques. You will be astounded to learn how these folks get by without using contemporary technology, and at the end, you will learn about the difficulties these people have in trying to live in the jungle. Return to your lodge to unwind after meeting with the Batwa Pygmy people. Stay the night at the lodge and eat dinner.
