
5-Day Best of Uganda Birding Safari
5-day Best of Uganda Birding Safari takes you to Uganda’s birding destinations and home to over 1031 bird species in an evenly distributed, diverse range of habitats, including Entebbe, Mabamba Wetlands, and Lake Mburo National Park. Entebbe features birding at the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC), Botanical Gardens, and Lake Victoria shores. Mabamba Wetlands is known for rare Shoebill Storks and several bird species. The tour ends at Lake Mburo National Park, home to over 313 bird species and diverse wildlife.
Day 1: Birding in Entebbe environs (Uganda Wildlife Education centre (UWEC), Botanical Gardens, and Lake Victoria Shores)
After breakfast, the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) will serve as our starting birding trail along the peninsula, which features over 170 bird species, including various types of pelicans, sunbirds, Weavers and raptors like the African Goshawk, Pink-backed Pelican, Lesser Jacana, Black-headed Weaver, African Fish Eagle, Cattle Eaglet, Green-headed Sunbird, Hamerkop and many others. Next, there will be a nature walk at the Botanical Gardens, where participants can observe birds like the Hooded Vulture, African Thrush, Yellow-fronted Tinkerbird, Pied Kingfisher and others. Retire and relax, have lunch, and later the itinerary includes visiting the sewage lagoons in the evening. Have dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2: Birding in Mabamba Wetlands
Take your early morning breakfast and head to Mabamba wetland, home to the highest concentration of shoebills. Your safari birding guide will guide you during the tour, as you will experience birdlife along the wetland using canoes to spot species like the Lizard Buzzard, Blue-breasted Bee-eater, Lesser Swamp Warbler, Squacco, African Water Rail, Papyrus gonolek, Long-Toed Plover, Lesser Jacana, Black Crake, African Jacana, Goliath, Purple, Herons, Pygmy Goose, Yellow-billed Duck, White-Faced Whistling Duck, Grey and Black-Headed Heron Moorhen, Allen’s Gallinule, Spur-winged Geese and others. En route to Kampala, a swamp may reveal a yellow-crowned Bishop, Weyns weaver and White-winged Warbler, among others. Expect to have a picnic lunch that will enable you to proceed with birding until evening. Return to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Drive to Lake Mburo National Park
Following your 5-day best of Uganda birding safari, take your early breakfast, then head to Lake Mburo National Park in southwestern Uganda. Stop at the Equator in Kayabwe, a landmark experience where the earth divides into the northern and southern hemispheres. Embark on your journey as you do some birding activities along the way. Keep an eye on bird species like the Lilac-breasted Roller, African Grey Hornbill, Emerald Spotted Wood Dove, Trilling Cisticola, Common Quail, and African Grey Hornbill. After lunch, relax and later drive along the Zebra Track in the late afternoon for an evening game drive where you will see species like Black-bellied Bustards, Temminck’s Coursers, Coqui Francolins and mammals like zebras, impalas, jackals, elands, and buffaloes, among others. Retire and return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Early Birding in Lake Mburo National Park

Day 5: Return to Kampala / Entebbe town/Hotel
After breakfast on the final day of your 5-day best of Uganda birding safari, take a game drive early in the morning along the Lakeside Track at Lake Mburo, where visitors can search for several species, including the rare Shoebill, White Winged Warbler, Handsome Spurfowl, African Jacana, Papyrus Gonolek, Kingfishers and others. Following breakfast, there is a boat cruise to see more wildlife species, including bird species such as the Goliath Heron, African Jacana and others. After stopping for lunch in Masaka town, your 5-day best Uganda birding safari ends in Kampala or Entebbe.
