5 Days Gorillas in Mgahinga & Volcanoes, Virunga conservation area is where three national frontiers converge on the dormant volcanoes where the mountain gorillas live on the edge of the Rift Valley: Rwanda, Uganda and The Congo. This is the place where the deep, dark forests of the Congo Basin meet the wide, open grasslands of east Africa: the line of contact between the two is an abrupt volcanic mountain range known as the Virunga that continues north into the Mountains of The Moon, or Ruwenzori range. Each of these countries protects its own portion of the Virunga Mountains which when combined forms the 435 Km² Virunga Conservation Area. This Gorilla Safari Will be looking at Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and Bwindi Gorilla Park in Uganda
Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes national park in Rwanda on the slopes of the Virunga. The densely forested slopes are home of the mountain gorillas. Watch out for the beautiful lush green hills and the peaks of the Virunga.
After a briefing at the park headquarters in the morning, leave all the civilization behind as you take on the jungle in search of the endangered mountain gorillas. The encounter with these close cousins of man is memorable. We spend an hour with them and we return to the lodge in the evening for a relaxation.
Depending on your desire we could go for golden monkey trekking before continuing to Uganda’s Mgahinga gorilla national park one of the forests that make up the Virunga and home to other mountain gorillas.
Once again assemble at the park headquarters for mountain gorilla trekking briefing. The trek is quite straining but highly rewarding as you get as close as 6 meters away from these endangered species. Watch the gorillas as they feed and tend to their young ones. The experience is exciting, amazing and overwhelming.
After breakfast checkout and return to Kigali where you will be transferred to the airport to catch your flight back home or for your next destination.
